What I particularly like about these universes is that they are not all that different from our own. That's what makes this book so interesting. The idea of multiple universes (or multiverse) and consciousness traveling between those universes seems outrageous but possible. In this series, complicated scientific concepts of theoretical physics are dealt with so well that not only do I understand them, but they seem possible. I'm a fan of science fiction but I don't often enjoy when books get bogged down with the science. Dimensional travel is sometimes hard to pull off but Claudia Gray does it brilliantly. The best part of this book, and the series, is the world building. It took the likable characters and allowed me to further connect with them and at the same time it expanded on plot points making this a much more intricate story. This book was just as good, if not better. But I liked it enough to give the second book a try and I'm glad that I did. I read the first book in this series, A Thousand Pieces of You, last December and liked it even though it didn't blow me away. The second book in the Firebird trilogy, Ten Thousand Skies Above You features Claudia Gray’s lush, romantic language and smart, exciting action, and will have readers clamoring for the next book.

But with each trial she faces, she begins to question the destiny she thought they shared. Each world brings Marguerite one step closer to rescuing Paul. The hunt sends her racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Marguerite has no choice but to search for each splinter of Paul’s soul. She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked and his consciousness scattered across multiple dimensions. Synopsis: Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents' invention, to cross into alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverse-even hurting the people she loves.
